How to make a Pom Pom

Easy to make pom poms in various sizes and colours!

• Yarn

Preparation Steps

Set up table with forks and various colours of yarn.

Activity Instructions

1. Seat participants around the table and ask each of them what colour yarn they would like to use to make their pom pom. 

2. Using the ball of yarn, unravel the ball and hold on to the end of the thread with your right hand. 

3. With your left hand, hold on to the handle of the fork.

4. Wrap the thread of the yarn around the back of the fork once and ensure there is a tail that is tightly secured.

5. Using your right hand, wrap the yarn around the back of the fork 50 times. Cut the end of the yarn. 

6. To tie the pom pom off, cut a piece of yarn about 5cm long and wrap the yarn through the middle slot of the back of the fork. Tie it tightly with a double knot.

7. Using scissors, cut both sides of the looped yarn.

8. Fluff pom pom.

9. Trim pom pom in a circle shape. 

10. To finish the pom pom, either cut off the loose ends, or keep them so that they can be hung on an object.
