Window Visit

Many loved ones have not seen their family in person for a while. Facilitating a window visit will make their day!

Required Supplies

• An electronic device that calls can be made on (phone, tablet, iPad)

• OR a small whiteboard to write messages on

• Chairs

Group Size

Min: 1
Max: 1

Hazards

This program may cause participants to feel agitated rather than happy if they do not understand why they cannot see their family at this time.

Preparation Steps

• Arrange a 15 minute visit with family to see their loved one

• Place a chair outside on the either side of the glass

Activity Instructions

1. Ask the family or friend to call when they have arrived for the meeting.

2. Bring participant to the meeting area and set them up on the other side of the window.

3. Call the family member so that they can communicate over the phone.

4. If the participant is unable to communicate over the phone due to hearing or speech difficulties, use the whiteboard as a form of communication to write messages back and forth.

Activity Instruction Adaptations

• For participants who cannot have in person visits, a window wave can be facilitated to celebrate a birthday, anniversary or any other special event!
